Have you ever found yourself utterly frustrated with… yourself? Perhaps you’re stuck in a cycle of procrastination, or maybe you’re busy with all the wrong things. It’s actually a really common human experience. And it might just be the biggest obstacle standing between you and everything you desire.
When We Become Our Own Roadblock
I was chatting with a client last week who had accomplished precisely none of her weekly goals. Again. As she spoke, I noticed her foot tapping incessantly against the floor, her fingers fidgeting with her notebook—physical manifestations of the frustration coursing through her body.
“I don’t understand why I keep doing this to myself,” she sighed. “I know exactly what I need to do to move forward. Why can’t I just bloody do it?”
Sound familiar?
Self-frustration typically shows up in two primary ways:
First, there’s the frustration with our inaction—those important tasks we continually put off that would genuinely move the needle forward in our business, health, relationships or personal development.
Second, there’s the frustration with our misplaced action—when we busy ourselves with tasks that don’t create meaningful progress, using busyness as a clever shield against addressing what truly matters.
Both situations leave us scratching our heads, wondering where on earth another week has gone without real advancement towards our goals. It’s maddening, isn’t it?
The Intriguing Paradox
Here’s where it gets properly interesting: You are simultaneously the source of your frustration AND the solution to it.
Let that sink in for a moment.
You embody both the struggle and the success. You are both the problem and the answer. This paradox is actually brilliant news because it means you already possess everything you need to transform your experience.
The root of these patterns lies in habitual loops of thought, energy and belief that we’ve been running—often unconsciously—for years. Until we shine the light of awareness on these patterns, we remain trapped within them.
Even when others highlight these patterns, meaningful change only occurs when we take personal responsibility. This is your invitation: identify where you’re frustrated with yourself and recognise where you might be denying yourself the greatest gift of alignment, expansion, joy and flow.
Which Lens Are You Looking Through?
A question I love asking my clients is: through which lens are you viewing your life? Are you looking through the lens of struggle and self-criticism, or through the lens of solution and success?
The lens you choose changes everything.
Most of us have been conditioned to think our way out of problems. We analyse, strategise, plan and plot. And while thinking certainly has its place, there’s another approach that can create profound shifts: feeling your way forward.
When you shift from thinking to feeling, everything changes. Your feelings provide immediate feedback—you instantly know what feels expansive, right and good versus what feels constrictive, off and uncomfortable.
Thinking our way through challenges often activates limiting beliefs from our subconscious, slowing our progress. In contrast, feeling our way naturally creates space for clarity to emerge.
Your Body Knows Before Your Mind
Though frustration may initially present as mental chatter—those annoying thoughts that won’t leave you alone—its physical manifestations reveal that your body has entered a fight-or-flight state.
That foot tapping? The fidgeting? The uneasiness you feel in your chest or stomach? These are clear signals that your nervous system is searching for safety.
By tuning into yourself through practices like breathwork, intentionality, mindset shifts or movement, you can regulate your nervous system and develop greater awareness of your states.
A client of mine who struggled with chronic procrastination discovered that before avoiding important tasks, she always experienced a tightness in her throat. Once she recognised this sensation as her body’s early warning system, she could pause, breathe, and choose a different response.
From Self-Frustration to Self-Trust
As you practice feeling your way through life, frustration becomes a passing visitor rather than a permanent resident. When you no longer entertain frustration with your attention, it appears less frequently.
Instead, your focus shifts to solutions, success and body awareness, allowing you to move through life with a sense of magic and momentum.
This journey requires trust—held with certainty, conviction and presence—which makes you magnetic to your desires. Rather than remaining trapped in habits of struggle or believing parts of you need healing before you can move forward, understanding yourself on a feeling level provides immediate answers.
Let me share a little story:
Sarah came to me utterly frustrated with her inability to grow her coaching practice despite her obvious talent. Each time we discussed marketing strategies, her energy visibly deflated. When I asked her to notice how her body felt when discussing different marketing approaches, she realised something profound: traditional marketing felt “heavy” to her, while the idea of collaborative partnerships felt “light and exciting.”
By following this feeling, she stopped forcing herself down the traditional marketing path that wasn’t aligned for her. Within three months of focusing exclusively on collaborative partnerships, her practice was fully booked—and she enjoyed every step of the journey.
The Energetics of Overcoming Self-Frustration
When you feel alignment within yourself, your energetic vibration naturally rises. This isn’t woo-woo nonsense—it’s quantum physics. Everything is energy, including your thoughts, emotions and actions.
High-vibration states like joy, excitement, peace and love are inherently more powerful than lower-vibration states like frustration, resentment or fear. When you consistently operate from higher vibrational states, you become magnetic to experiences, people and opportunities that match that frequency.
This heightened attunement helps you magnetise everything you desire and create the abundant, loving lifestyle you’re meant to experience.
Practical Steps to Break Free from Self-Frustration
Let’s get practical. Here are some approaches to shift from self-frustration to self-alignment:
- Create a body awareness practice: Spend 5 minutes each morning scanning your body. Notice where you hold tension and where you feel ease. This builds your “feeling vocabulary.”
- **Implement the “feeling check”: Before making decisions, pause and ask, “How does this feel in my body?” Notice the immediate response—contraction or expansion.
- Play the alignment game: When faced with a task you’re resisting, ask yourself, “What would make this feel more aligned?” Perhaps it’s changing your environment, breaking the task into smaller pieces, or finding a way to infuse it with more joy.
- Practice the pause: When you catch yourself in frustration, pause. Take three deep breaths. Place a hand on your heart. Then ask, “What does the wisest part of me know about this situation?”
- Follow the breadcrumbs of joy: What activities make you lose track of time? What conversations energise you? These are alignment breadcrumbs—follow them!
The Magnificent Shift
Life, as Abraham teaches, is meant to be fun, joyful and predominantly happy. You’re allowed to feel bloody epic on multiple levels. Yes, truly!
When I first encountered this idea, I was skeptical. Like many of us raised with the “no pain, no gain” mentality, I believed struggle was necessary for achievement. But as I’ve witnessed in my own life and in the lives of hundreds of clients, the opposite is true.
Your greatest achievements will come from a place of alignment, not struggle. Your biggest breakthroughs will happen when you’re in flow, not when you’re battling yourself.
The shift from self-frustration to alignment doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a practice—one that grows stronger each time you choose to tune into yourself rather than bulldoze through resistance.
The first step is simply tuning into yourself and discovering what your frustration is really telling you. From there, the path to alignment becomes clear, and the habits that attract more goodness naturally develop.
When you’re aligned, you become a natural conduit for inspiration, opportunity and abundance. Everything you want begins flowing to you with remarkable ease.
So, dear one, next time you catch yourself in that familiar cycle of self-frustration, remember this paradox: the very awareness of your frustration is the first step toward your freedom from it. You are both the question and the answer. And within your magnificent human body, you already carry all the wisdom you need.
Trust that. Feel your way forward. And watch how magically your world transforms.
