There’s a moment most of us have experienced at least once. You just knew. You hadn’t researched it, nobody had told you, and it wasn’t because the logic added up – you simply knew – deep in your bones, in your gut, in some part of you that your mind couldn’t quite reach – that something was going to happen.
And then it did.
Or perhaps you felt it and dismissed it. You talked yourself out of it, dressed it up as wishful thinking, and told yourself, “Well, hindsight’s a wonderful thing.” But, somewhere inside, you knew that you knew.
That’s intuition. And learning how to trust your intuition might just be one of the most powerful and potent things you’ll ever do.
What intuition actually is (and where it lives)
When you look at the word itself, it starts to make sense. Tuition is being taught, learning something. And the in in front of it relates to your inner learning, inner lessons, inner knowing.
Intuition doesn’t live in your intellect. It can’t be researched your way to. You can read every book, listen to every podcast , and attend every seminar – and at some point the intellectual trail runs dry. Because intuition is a layer of consciousness that lives beneath all of that. It’s accessed not through more thinking, but through less of it.
This is why so many people struggle with it, especially those of us who’ve been conditioned – by school, work, society – to learn everything from the outside in. From one mind to another. From teacher to student. We’re rarely taught to trust what’s already inside us.
The journey from your head to your heart
One of the greatest journeys available to you is the one from your intellect to your intuition.
Your mind will try to make it logical. It will want a checklist, a process, a clear set of steps that lead to a definitive answer. Intuition doesn’t work like that. It doesn’t run on timelines and it doesn’t care for to-do lists. It simply is. And the more you try to force it into a logical framework, the quieter it gets.
What tends to happen when people start to really connect with their intuition is this: when the noise clears – when the energy in other areas of life comes into alignment – the intuition gets louder. Clearer. Undeniable.
That’s because so much of what muffles it is noise we’ve accumulated. Fear. Old identities. The habit of outsourcing our certainty to other people. When those things ease, the inner knowing rises.
How do you know when it’s your intuition speaking?
People describe it differently. Some feel it in the gut – a visceral, unmistakable pull. Some feel it in the chest, right in the heart. Others describe a whole-body “yes,” like every cell is on board. Others feel themselves physically drawn forward, as if something is gently pulling them in a direction before the mind has even caught up.
What it tends to have in common, no matter how it shows up, is a quality of certainty. Not arrogance. Not stubbornness. A calm, unshakeable knowing. A sense that something is not just possible, but already done. Already real. You’re just catching up to it in time.
And the fascinating thing about that – the reason the knowing feels so strong – is because, in the realm you’re tapping into, it is already done. That’s what makes intuition so hard to explain intellectually – it operates outside of linear time. It doesn’t care when. It just knows that.
Why we talk ourselves out of it
For anyone who spends a lot of time in their head – and most high-achievers and driven people do – intuition can feel deeply uncomfortable. It doesn’t come with evidence. It can’t be defended in a meeting. You can’t cite it in a report.
So we dismiss it. We shrink it, we tell ourselves we were lucky, or mistaken, or reading too much into things. We play it down, and in doing so, we slowly chip away at our connection to one of our greatest inner resources.
The more you dismiss it, the harder it becomes to hear. The more you act on it – even in small ways, even when it feels vulnerable or uncertain – the stronger it grows.
Building the muscle
Trusting your intuition isn’t something that happens overnight. For most people, it’s a gradual process of learning to distinguish the voice of genuine inner knowing from the chatter of fear, ego, and conditioning.
It starts with noticing. Reflecting on moments when you did know – when you felt something clearly and it turned out to be right. Starting to take those instances seriously, rather than brushing them off as coincidence.
It deepens as your energy comes into alignment. When you’re pulled in too many directions, when your body is running on stress and your mind on overwhelm, the signal-to-noise ratio suffers. Clarity of intuition and clarity of energy tend to go hand in hand.
And it grows exponentially as you start to act on it. Each intuitive nudge followed through on is a message to yourself: I trust this. I trust me. That trust compounds.
What becomes possible when you do
When you know how to trust your intuition – not just occasionally, but consistently, in your bones – something shifts. You stop looking quite so desperately outside yourself for validation, direction, or permission. You develop what can only be described as an unshakeable quality. A backing of yourself that doesn’t waver.
And from that place? Things that once felt impossibly far away start to collapse into now. Goals that seemed distant, connections that felt out of reach, opportunities that appeared to come from nowhere arrive. Because you’re aligned enough to call them in and clear enough to recognise them when they show up.
That’s not magic. That’s mastery.
Your intuition has always been there. It’s not something to be built from scratch – it’s something to be uncovered. Listened to. Trusted.
