The Energy Of Play (And Why It’s So Important When Scaling For Success)

The energy of play is something that doesn’t get nearly enough airtime in the world of business and personal development. We talk endlessly about strategy, structure, systems and scaling. But the energy of play tends to get pushed to the side, dismissed as a nice-to-have, or worse, seen as the opposite of serious success.

And it really couldn’t be further from the truth.

The people creating the most magnetic, impactful, and expansive businesses are usually the ones who have learned to harness the energy of play in everything they do. They essentially use it as a strategy.

Why the Energy of Play Gets Dismissed

People don’t take play seriously enough. Now I’m well aware this might sound like a contradiction, but bear with me and I’ll explain what I mean.

There’s a perception that if you’re playing, you’re not working. That if things feel fun and light and joyful, then maybe you’re not really committed to the impact you’re here to make. That success has to feel heavy, pressured, and relentless to count as real success.

But in my experience working with successful business owners, the ones who are brave enough and vulnerable enough to let themselves play, to show that playful side of themselves in their business, their content, and their leadership, are the ones who grow fastest. They create the deepest connections, attract the most aligned opportunities, and build things that actually light them up.

What It Actually Does

When you tap into the energy of play, something genuinely shifts inside you. Your energy lifts, your frequency rises, and you move from a state of pushing and striving into a state of expansion and possibility.

You start asking “what if?” without needing the answer to be perfect. Ideas can be explored without you becoming attached to the outcome. You start showing up in your work with a magnetism that people can genuinely feel, because you’re not performing enthusiasm, you’re actually in it.

That is an extraordinarily powerful state to build a business from.

The energy of play also creates what I think of as a mirror effect. When you allow yourself to be playful and show that openly, you give other people permission to do the same. You become the living proof that joy and impact are not mutually exclusive. That you can be completely dedicated to your mission and still laugh, still be a bit silly, still lead from a place of lightness.

That ripple effect on the people around you, your clients, your audience, your community, is enormous. I’ve seen it first-hand many times.

This Is Personal

One of the most important things to understand about the energy of play is that it looks different for everyone, and that’s entirely the point.

For me, one of the big ways it shows up is in physical challenges. I’ve done Tough Mudder, ran the London Marathon, taken part in lots and lots of these sort of challenges. I absolutely thrive on the physical challenges and mental workouts involved. The complete silliness of throwing yourself through a course with no intention of winning, just the sheer joy of being in it. That gets me into the energy of play instantly. It feels light, adventurous, and completely free.

For someone else, that same activity would feel like a total nightmare and about as far away from play as they could possibly imagine. And that’s absolutely fine.

Your version of the energy of play might be dancing in your kitchen, wild swimming, painting, going down the swings at the park, having a completely ridiculous conversation with your best friend, or spinning around in the garden until you feel dizzy and joyful and five years old again.

The activity matters far less than the feeling. The energy of play feels light. It feels free. It feels like you’ve completely detached from outcomes and expectations and you’re just fully, gloriously present in the moment.

That feeling is your compass. Follow it.

Bringing the Energy of Play Into Your Business Strategy

So how do you actually bring the energy of play into your work in a way that moves the needle?

Start with awareness. Notice where things feel heavy, forced, or flat in your business. Those are usually the areas where play has been squeezed out entirely. Then ask yourself: what would this look like if I brought a little lightness to it? What if I approached my content, my client work, my marketing, with genuine curiosity and fun rather than pressure?

When you bring the energy of play to your content creation, it stops feeling like a chore and starts feeling like genuine expression. When you bring it to your strategy, you start innovating rather than just executing. When you bring it to how you show up for your clients, you become more creative, more present, and more genuinely connected.

One of my favourite ways to anchor into this energy is simply to start the morning with a mirror moment. Look at yourself and ask: how much fun can I bring today? How can I let the energy of play lead me right now? What would today look like if it felt genuinely joyful?

It sounds simple. It is simple. And it is remarkably, consistently effective.

How It Speeds Everything Up

Here’s what surprises people most about working with the energy of play: it accelerates your results rather than slowing them down.

When you’re in that expansive, joyful, playful state, you’re not gripping tightly to outcomes. You’re not in resistance. You’re flowing. And things flow back to you much more easily when you’re in that state. Opportunities appear. Connections deepen. Ideas come faster. The manifestations that once felt like they were taking forever start arriving with a speed that genuinely surprises you.

This is the energy of play at its most powerful. Not just as something that makes the journey more enjoyable, though it absolutely does, but as something that fundamentally changes how quickly and how fully you step into your next level of success.

Reconnecting with your childlike energy is at the heart of this. The part of you that ran for the sheer joy of running. That made things without needing them to be perfect. That laughed without needing a reason. Can you do a cartwheel? Go on the swings? Spin around until you feel completely giddy?

Find your giddiness. Anchor into it. Let the energy of play become a non-negotiable part of how you build your business and your life.

Your Invitation to Play

As you read this, I want to leave you with one question: what does the energy of play feel like for you?

Not what it looks like. Not what it should be. What does it genuinely feel like in your body when you’re fully in it? Light? Giddy? Electric? Free?

Start there. Bring one small moment of that energy into your day today. Then tomorrow, a little more. Build a business and a life that is genuinely infused with that frequency, and watch what becomes possible when you stop treating play as a luxury and start treating it as the strategy it truly is.

The energy of play is available to you right now. The only question is how much of it you’re willing to let in.
